Subject: Photo found in Bible
Hi,
You do not know me. My name is Kathleen, and since I majored in German and
lived in Germany after school, I was delighted when I found a very old German Bible in a bookstore. The family chronology pages had never been filled in and were all blank. After I got it home, to my surprise I found two things inside the Bible. The first was a photo, about 4.5 x 2.5 inches, with "Mrs. Ahrens" written in
pencil on the back and, under it, it looks like "Bernice R." The photo is of about 20 people standing in a field with some childen sitting down in front. It is almost impossible to make out faces, but a family member still might recognize them. It looks like one woman has her skirt blown up by the wind, and her bloomers are showing from beneath her slip. The second thing is an old tract in German, entitled "Weisst Du?." The English words, "Old Theology Quarterly" No. 23-German-October 1894, are on the front. (By the clothing worn in the photograph, I do not think the photo is as old.) A few years ago I became a Jehovah's Witness, and I recognize this as an early publication of the Bible Students, or "Bibelforscher," as they were then known. On the top of the front of the tract, "335 Lode Street" is written.
I mention the Witness connection as it might help you identify who "Mrs. Ahrens" might be if she or her family were/are Witnesses. The tract was published in Allegheny, PA.
I would like to offer the photograph to you. If you would send me your address, I would gladly mail it to you. In return, I would only like to hear back from you as to whether nor not anyone knows the people in the photograph.
Regards,
Kathleen
